The Vision for the New Coign Church Development

The redevelopment of the Coign Church site has a number of key criteria which it needs to meet.

Firstly, for the Church, it needs to provide accommodation to enable its 800 people to meet together to worship, and to provide enough room for future growth. It also needs to provide enough space to enable church ministries to be enhanced and advanced through the new purpose-built church building.

Secondly, for the Community, it needs to create a resource centre to enlarge and expand the different ministries through which the Church serves the town - whatever their religion, race or background. It needs to provide a first class auditorium and conference facility for the town. It needs to provide the space for bigger and better training courses, support groups, ministries and events, as well as providing the accommodation for bigger and better activities for children and teenagers.

Thirdly, for the Town of Woking, it needs to make the most of a prime town centre site to meet some of the retail and residential needs of a growing town - in fact since the church owns some houses on Oaks Road to the rear of the site and will include them in the redevelopment, the project actually needs to provide both church and residential accomodation. The Church has also been asked to ensure that the development provides an impressive Western Gateway to the town centre.

The leaders of the Coign have appointed award-winning architects Collado Collins of London to design a redevelopment of the site which would meet all of these diverse needs. They have provided a plan which has received the overwhelming support of church members and which will form the basis of the planning application which will be made to Woking Borough Council.
