History
We are an evangelical, charismatic, apostolic church based in Woking, Surrey, UK. We trace our roots back to Woking Baptist Church which was planted in Woking in the 19th Century, and which was transformed by the move of the Holy Spirit in the 1960s & 70s. The rediscovery of the baptism in the Holy Spirit brought rapid growth, and in 1977 we moved to our current building and became The Coign Church. an independent and non-denominational church which is part of the Newfrontiers family of churches. More recently, our growing numbers have led us to move our Sunday meetings to the larger HG Wells Centre in Woking town centre.
Today we are a thriving community of over 600 adult members, over 200 children, and a growing number of visitors and friends who join us each week. We come from all ages, backgrounds and cultures, joined together by our love for Jesus and the joy of being God's children through our faith in Him.
We also have a wider influence in mission worldwide, with close links to a growing number of churches around the world. We have recently planted a new church in Guildford - click here for their church website.
We are affiliated to the Newfrontiers family of churches and to the Evangelical Alliance.
This is the church we are now – see VISION for the church we are becoming…!
Here are some definitions:-
Evangelical - We believe in the divine inspiration and Truth of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16,17), and that everyone needs to be made right with God through personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Charismatic - We believe that Baptism with the Holy Spirit is for today (John 1:33). This distinctive Christ-given experience releases men and women in worship, gifts, and ministries that bring encouragement to others and help to build the Church. We also seek to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in our lives and relationships.
Apostolic - We believe that Christ given ministries (Ephesians 4:11) are still needed by the Church to bring her to maturity and unity. These serving ministries should be honoured and received as they equip and release believers to do the will of God.
